Tex Communities

Repurposing industry textile waste for community benefit.

TeX helps to create sustainable communities by working with industrial textile waste, embracing the Circular Economy, Our model is regenerative by design and works in a way that benefits communities, the environment and businesses. TeX works to create change across the six E's which form the key pillars of TeX

Education

Communities often have the knowledge they need. TeX brings people together from across the community to share their skills, knowledge and experience across generations. Through 'Makerspace's', Textile Workshops and Training we equip the next generation of talent with the skills, knowledge and passion for the sustainable fashion and textiles industries.

Empowerment

We set out to empower people to take lead in their own communities, We have built a model that works although to address the climate emergency there is not time to scale it working on our own. We want to empower others to replicate our model in their communities, building momentum behind the TeX movement. TeX also empowers people in the communities we operate, positively impacting on their lives, and raising aspirations as they connect with the six pillars of TeX.

Enviroment

To date TeX has diverted 24.2 tonnes of textiles from landfill. This has been achieved through using circular design to repurpose industry surplus, producing new products from waste and creating opportunities for our community to learn skills that help them reduce their impact on the environment and live more sustainable lifestyles.

Ecopreneurship

We set out to empower people to take Natural Entrepreneurs we are working embrace entrepreneurial skills, applying them to our work to help solve environmental problems.  Through TeX we are building a sustainable business that helps to decouple growth from the consumption of finite resources. TeX aims to eliminate all textile waste by designing it out of the industry, everything should be used to its maximum efficiency. Using our expertise as entrepreneurs we are driving change across industries.

Employment

Through business collaborations and the facilitation of community activities TeX creates valuable opportunities for employment.

enterprise

From helping them close the loop on their manufacturing to transition towards a circular economy and repurposing industry surplus textiles. TeX helps businesses profit from the transition to circular design while supporting other good causes  creating stories of surplus being used for community benefit, raising companies profiles and improving CSR.

The FAre Exchange

The Fare Exchange Bodmin was set up during the COVID-19 pandemic by a group of volunteers wanting to help make change and support the community around them. Sourcing surplus food from local and national businesses and charities, we distribute food surplus to those most in need helping reduce food poverty.
Working closely with organisations like FareShare we have been able to quickly grow our supply chain however there is still much more to be done to meet demand and ensure no child in Cornwall goes hungry.
Since the start of the pandemic through the Fare Exchange Bodmin we have supported hundreds of families across the Bodmin Community. We deliver food parcels to up to 200 people in Bodmin each week and have a shop on the high street, open 5 days a week for the local community to collect food parcels.
