WOW .. Simply WOW...
The fashion show was so much more than we expected! 205 people came to watch and for many it was quite emotional. We helped 42 children gain confidence through public performing and in the mean time we helped raise money for them to go to the theater as a reward and in the 5 short weeks it took to organise we made 62 outfits for them to wear on the day. So many proud parents and visitors got caught up with the whole performance that came alive through music, lights and dance. The backdrops, cat walk and decor really did set the whole day up to be fantastic. Every single person that attended were amazed by the quality of the performance and the clothing we produced out of what would have ended up in landfill. From this came demand.. Demand to do more with other youth groups in other areas and the demand for sales of the clothing we made. Cornubia got brought back to life that weekend and you could feel the soul of the building lift with delight. For those that might not know, Cornubia Hall was built in the 10930`s as a dance hall and had been left empty for the previous 6 years. It is going through transformation into a community hub and for us this was a perfect reason to hold the fashion show there - in support of the community. As it happened, or more like, as we planned, the show date we chose was the community business weekend held by Power to Change and it was the grand opening of Cornubia to the public. For us, it was a challenge to get everything ready in 5 short weeks but so rewarding for doing so. We also learned so much from the event. We have never done a fashion show before, We are previous shop keepers, we are cleaners, carers and house mums - But not any more.. Nope, not after that day. For now we hold our heads up just that little bit higher with pride... For now we can make magic happen through fashion and 205 people on that day will agree with us for sure.
