![]() Bodmins first Wacky Races ! A fun filled childrens event where they will have the chance to create and build vehicles of all types and have a little race around after. This is seriously fun and a great way to spend creating memories with your children. We will have staff / volunteers on hand to help with your creations and to help build your dream racers. It starts at 10am and goes on until 3.30. Bring a pack lunch or snacks if you need. The event has been planned for the day before the carnival so that your little ones might want to join in and support it. Its been able to go ahead through support from the local Councillors, the fine people from the Community Rooms and with the great help of volunteers. Did I forget to mention that this is free ??? !!!!
We have enough funding for around 30 children to take part. 30 little wacky racers ripping around the course with their creations ... If we do get a massive take up then we can build more but there may have to be a very small charge of around £2 per child. Free is good though .. we like free. Find us through the Facebook Event below.

Full steam ahead !!
Conformation came through from the Erasmus + UK National Agency today to confirm acceptance of our training program. To say we are excited is a little understated.. 26 Europeans coming to Cornwall in October. We designed a training course to suit the needs of NGO`s and trainers within youth work and with keeping up to date with the digital world. We will be looking at crowdfunding, social media, mail chimp and so much more. This all started whilst we were undertaking an Erasmus+ training course in Italy back in December 2015. Combining our skills and working hard over the Christmas period we managed to meet the February deadline for applications and now with acceptance we can start on the delivery on the program. First off, we will be working with suitable hotels in the county to accommodate us all for 8 magical days during October.. Its going to be fun!! The referendum is just around the corner here in the UK and its all a bit worrying to be honest.
Who knows what the future of the UK is within Europe. Either we stay in or we exit, either way I don`t think things will be the same again. It seems to me that the campaigning from both sides has been one of fear and this has made things very messy. Cornwall benefits from being within Europe and the funding they receive from Europe has produced jobs and futures for may. Take this away and I cant see this government or future governments replacing what will be lost. One of the main reasons I wish to remain in Europe is the freedom to travel with open borders. This works both ways and I think it works well. We go there and they come here. I have traveled for many years and the ease to travel within Europe has been most brilliant. My partner is not from the UK or Europe and for the first few years of living here we had many a problem when wanting to travel through Europe. Visas could take months to obtain and often put us off going. Now, I`m not saying that we will have to go back to that and require visas to travel again but at the moment it is an unknown. Anyway, In around 12 days we find out how the voting turned out and can then start to look at the future. These are my own thoughts on Europe and something i wanted to share. John L Money .. Its a dirty word sometimes but something we often need to reach our goals..
Insurances need to be paid, rooms and venues need to be hired, equipment bought or hired, training for volunteers and very very rarely .. .salary........... Everything we have done so far has been voluntary, any profits made have gone back into the company and we have loved what we have been doing... The thing is, we want to do more. This is great stuff but now we hit the problem of money... We need the extra insurance, we need to hire venues and we need to buy equipment and this is where we need the money. Now being a bit entrepreneurial we asked ourselves .. Could we go out and just raise the money ourselves?? Well yes we could but it would take time and during that time we are not delivering to the community as planned. Our youth group that is our next planned project will be tackle this. We plan to set up a working youth group in our community to help them find their voice and be seen in a more positive way. This will be through events that they have identified and run through the community. Any profits made will then be put back into the project to become sustainable. They will be paying their own rents, insurances and for their equipment but .... only once they get going. The need for small funding to start this off and to make this happen this year is needed and we are working towards finding this.. Our main efforts are with SSE ( School for Social Entrepreneurs) and with Unltd, again for social entrepreneurs. Over the next few weeks we should see how successful we have been in our applications and whether we can start the youth groups going this summer. The whole funding and grants application process is new to us and although exciting it is a long drawn out process and often takes months to go through. Its great to be learning about them and also the support that is on offer with them. If you would like to find out more about SSE or Unltd, please drop us a line and we will get back to you with more details. until then, fingers crossed for us please and lets make this happen! Well here we are ...
It seems an age since we put out any information and updates and no, we haven't been lazy, we have just been really really busy. Snickets Book Emporium delivered its first books back in April to a youth group in Bodmin and through their ideas we have set up book swaps and regular access to books that they have for free. The Erasmus + training program is happening ! This is going to take place during October 16 and will bring 26 Europeans together, in Cornwall, for 8 days. This is really our chance to highlight Cornwall and all it has to offer. We have secured funding from the local Councillors Community Chest to hold a Wacky Races ! This is going to be so much fun and having run these before i know the adults will enjoy it as much as the children. Its going to happen on the 19th August, community rooms Bodmin a more info will be going out soon on how to book your place. |
